It is very important to know what to look for when buying fruit trees. If you buy the wrong ones, they may never fruit or may die quickly. In this video we talk about the top tips for buying fruit trees and how to choose the right ones. Our trip to Dave Wells Nursery in Lindale, TX was great again this year. They offer many exotics and a ton of variety. Do your research into what trees grow well in your area by utilizing the internet, your local county extension office, and your State Ag University (in our case, Texas A&M) Always make sure you look for a tree trunk that is fairly straight, a trunk that is between 1/2 inch and 1 inch in diameter, good even branch structure, good roots, a healed solid graft union, no disease indications, and no broken limbs. Also pay close attention to the number of chill hours each tree requires and match that to your growing zone.
